Stress: A conflict of our human minds

Stress, a six letter word that ruins lives. Six letters that form one word which often sums up the entirety of a human being. I’m sick of it, to be honest with you.

For me, it’s a constant battle between good and evil, evil being stress. I often tell myself, “Don’t worry about these tests, in the end none of this will matter.” After that, it’s almost a sudden relief. All of the tension that has been building up cowers in fear and relinquishes it’s strong hold on my muscles, vanishing into thin air, and I can breathe again. The sun is finally out, temporarily.

But one simple thought enters my mind and the tension is back. “I have a test tomorrow!”, “I need to do well in school, I need to get a good job!” I’m back to my old self again. Worrying constantly about every small detail. I swear, my hair is already turning white.

I just want to know what causes this stress. It seems easy for some people to live a blissful life, not letting anything bother them. Are they really not stressed? Or are they just better at hiding it? This question really annoys me. It seems, however, that I am able to escape this stress in several ways. For me, it’s piano. Art. Reading. Stars. We all have our form of escape, if only we could live in a constant state of escape. Freedom from gravity, that keeps us grounded. If only that temporary high that we feel from engaging ourselves in what we love could stay forever. But it’s only temporary.

Just think. Life is short. Today, we are here, we are unhappy. Tomorrow, we are gone. Live your life as though you are in that constant state of being care-free, like you were when you were a child playing outside in the green grass. Find the one thing that makes you happy, and live it. Because if you do, today you will be here, happy. And tomorrow will be another day.

I wrote this song to try to capture the emotions that we feel daily. It’s a mixture of happy and sad, positive and negative. Ambivalence. If you enjoy the song, follow the link and check out more of my other music, hopefully it will help.

New Years Music Suggestion

This New Years, many people will make long-term commitments to change who they are. Many people will set their resolutions and pursue their goals and dreams. Many people, for that small glimpse of time while the ball counts down minute by minute, will look back at the year of 2012 and remember the good times and the bad times. There is an indescribable feeling of hope, love, and a voice inside our head that will say, ‘we did it, we made it through the year stronger than ever’. For a moment in time, the world is united by one thought, a new year. How amazing it is to think that for one moment, something so simple as a new year can make the world forget what is happening within the world. We throw away our fear, our troubles, and war is not thought of. We open up to the idea of love and peace, and we smile at those who are around us. It is a bond between human beings that is impenetrable. We…for one small portion of time…are equal.

If there is one thing that I want you all to consider while writing out your resolutions, it’s that you are all beautiful already. You are beautiful in your faults and in your abilities. You mistakes are beautiful, and your character is beautiful. Be who you are this new year. 2013 is the year for change, and you will lead the way.

Hope you enjoy

Music Suggestion Day 7

I know I haven’t posted anything in quite some time. I decided to take a break from life and travel to the northern part of the U.S. as well as Canada. I will definitely be uploading pictures of my exciting adventure. As for the music, I’ve been thinking of good songs to share with you, and I think I have the perfect song for today. I have spent most of my day thinking about our society today. What has happened? Why do we see so much hatred, so much violence, so much bigotry?

This song may be older, but it carries a strong message, make sure you pay attention to the words.

Love one another. Life is too short to be living in constant anger and fear. One simple act of kindness, one caring gesture, one word of inspiration is all it takes to help change the world. Where is the love?

Music Suggestion Day 6

I’ve grown fond of several bands lately, particularly Imagine Dragons. There’s just a certain style that they have with their chilling lyrics, and calm yet powerful sound, that has me listening to them almost constantly. So, the song that I’m requesting to you guys tonight is called Round and Round, by Imagine Dragons.

I hope you all like it, and definitely go check out some of their other music, it’s equally awesome.

I also hope you all have a fantastic weekend, you deserve the break!

Music Suggestion Day 5

Wednesday…. Wednesday is always that awkward day in the middle of the week where you’re half excited that the week is almost over and half depressed because it’s not almost over.  Did you know that on December 5th in 1492, Columbus discovered Hispaniola? Or, on this day in 1792, George Washington was re-elected US President? Orrrrr, that on this day in 1776, the first Fraternity was created? So, I do believe today should be some special holiday. We should not have to go to school/work today, but that’s just my opinion.

Anyways, today is always an energetic/productive day for me so that I can prepare myself for the weekend. So here’s a really cool upbeat song that I think you will all enjoy.

Have a great day!

Life as I know it

I’ve always wondered what life would be like if I could read someone else’s mind. I could solve all of the unanswered questions,  I could figure out the real them. It’d be interesting to see what people think, because I can almost 100% guarantee you the way they’re acting on the outside isn’t how they act on the inside.

mind reading

Kind of like how the despicable high school bully, who picks on everyone and everything that is different, ends up being gay.

Or how the extremely successful business man, with all the fame and fortune he could imagine, hates his life.

It kills me how fake people make themselves out to be, trying to conform to a nonexistent society of people who are all the same. When in reality, everyone just wants to be themselves. So why don’t we all give it a try?

I’m going to save you the hassle of trying to possess a power that we will never be able to possess, and allow you into my mind just for a few minutes.

I’m the type of person that grew up scared to death to be myself. I tried so hard, every day, to fit in with every group of kids. I would act like a big buff jock and date all of the prettiest girls, I would go home and lie about how amazing my day was, then I would lay in my bed thinking about how life would be if I just let go of the act.

Honestly, I was terrified. I thought, if I show my parents what kind of person I really am, they will disown me. My friends will think I’m a weirdo, and I’ll be all alone. Man, if only I could go back in time and tell myself to be yourself! I would have been able to accept life so much easier.

Today, I just don’t even care what people think about me. I’m weird as hell, and that’s perfectly fine with me. I cry during romantic movies, I cry when someone kills bugs, heck…. I just cry. I’m sensitive, I’m emotional, and I’m fun. I dance with my friends around campus and I say crazy things. Most of all, I’m open-minded towards literally everything. In high school, I used to have to act like I hated anything that wasn’t popular. Now, if you’re gay, straight, bisexual, pansexual, anti-religious, cross-gender, or whatever way you want to categorize yourself, I think that’s great. Be diverse, because the world could certainly use diversity.

don't follow the crowd

Well, that’s me in a nutshell. I hope you enjoyed being able to read minds. I just want people to know that staying locked up inside your own mind will eventually come back to haunt you. Voice your opinions, stand up for those around you who are being bullied, and love everyone for who they are. We’re all human beings after all, spinning around on an odd circular rock in a sea of blackness full of other circular rocks. Why do we allow the popular people around us to dictate the way we live our lives? Can they really be that important? Life’s too short for that.

From the great lyrics of Audioslave, “Being yourself is all that you can do.”

I find this to be completely true these days.

Be yourself, and watch how many great opportunities open up in your life.

Music Suggestion Day 4

Alright, I’m officially in the Christmas Spirit. Four more days, just four more days…

I’ll be done with classes for the semester, and I’ll be in the snowy state of Pennsylvania, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Anyways, on days like this I enjoy listening to some good ole’ Christmas music to brighten my mood. This video was actually sent to me via FaceBook by a friend of mine that has a “slight” obsession with Darren Criss. And I don’t really mean slight at all, it’s a pretty big obsession. This video is pretty amazing though, so I hope you enjoy it.

And if you don’t happen to celebrate Christmas, well, just enjoy yourselves anyways. Enjoy this time of the year any way you can.

As always, here’s a bit of art to enjoy while listening to the music. This is a pretty simple sketch I did a while back, but I like how it turned out. Let me know what you think.

Have a great day, everyone!
